New and Notable
Timothy Paul Carpets + Textiles, 1404 14th St. NW; 202-319-1100;
www.timothypaulcarpets.com. Husband-and-wife team Tim and
Mia Worrell recently opened this gallery-style shop, where
you’re likely to find an antique Oushak hanging in
harmony next to a contemporary rug from Nepal. “We
wanted to show people it’s okay to mix the old with
the new,”
says Tim, a former manager at Odegard, a rug dealer in
the Washington Design Center.
Timothy
Paul has no arduous stacks to rummage through. Just a select
inventory of rugs, fabrics, and lighting—including
a few boutique lines you aren’t likely to find elsewhere
in town. One standout is Hudson Valley-based Aleman-Moore,
whose harvest- and jewel-toned straw rugs are simple yet
striking. Bonus: They have an oil-based coating so you an
clean with soap and water. The average price for room-size
rugs (eight-by-ten) is $2,000 to $8,000, with antiques topping
out at well over $20,000. |
